- 8 April 2023: The Falling Tree Collaborative concert performs live in East Lansing. This was a science-music fusion event founded by Dr. Berkley Walker where 4 composers each paired up with 4 PIs in the Plant Biology department. Kadeem and Sylvie were both involved in collaborating with composer Dr. Lisa Coons of Western Michigan University. - 24-31 May 2023: Kadeem attends the International Carnivorous Plant Society meeting in Himeji, Japan.
- 31 May - 8 June 2023: Following the ICPS meeting, Kadeem travels to Singapore to participate in the XPRIZE Rainforest rapid biodiversity survey competition, contributing his expertise in metabarcoding. Jean-Baptiste also contributed to the competition on the bioinformatic side back in Michigan (with his metabarcoding pipeline expertise). (The MSU members involved were part of team “Act Now - Amazonas Action Alliance”, which made the semifinals)

- 17 June 2023: Sylvie, Kadeem, and Vincent help lead the first annual KBS BioBlitz on teams of volunteers identifying species of plants and insects in the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, uploading all observation records on iNaturalist
- 26-30 June 2023: The Gilbert Lab hosts Dr. Aaron Ellison, emeritus professor at Harvard Forest, as one of the two KBS Eminent Ecologists for Summer 2023.
- 22-27 July 2023: Kadeem and incoming grad student Daniel Mok attend the Botany conference in Boise, Idaho. Kadeem gives a talk and Dan presents a poster.
